There is only one absolute certainty in life - we will all eventually die. But is death of the body the end of all personal consciousness and being, or is death of the body a transition of some part of the body from this physical, or mortal life, to another life in another invisible realm or universe - a transition into a life after death?

Such questions have intrigued all people throughout human history. We all hear stories of the wondrous revival of some people from death, of inexplicable happenings associated with the dead, of the ghosts of the dead visiting the living, of people who visited the realm inhabited by the souls of the dead while they themselves were near to death, out of body experiences, of demons and other worldly beings. Such stories have been told and retold since the dawn of time. Many people are awed by such stories, believing them to be proof of the reality of the of things unseen in another parallel, but immaterial realm. People tell and retell these stories, and many clasp them to their bosoms, cherishing them as true proof of a life after death.

But are these wondrous experiences truly proof of a parallel immaterial reality, or proof of a life after death? Is there really some form of life after death? Mortal Minds is a book with answers to these questions. These answers are provable answers to these basic questions. Mortal Minds answers these questions. It explains how the functioning of our bodies defines the nature of death, determines our personal experiences of dying, as well as teaching whether the ages-old belief in a life after death is myth or reality. Mortal Minds explains in detail how the functioning of the body generates the idea of a soul, of a life after death, of paranormal senses, of visions of the human aura, of out of body experiences, and of near-death experiences. In short - Mortal Minds is a book describing the biology of near death experiences and the possibility of a life after death. It is not written in unreadable medical jargon, but in readable English at a level able to be understood by all who have completed a high school education.

 

Chapters and contents of Mortal Minds

Mortal Minds is a curious mixture of religion, the paranormal, and hard facts about the functioning of the body. The sequence of chapters provides a logical flow of argument answering all questions about the nature of death and a possible afterlife.

1. Chapter 1 - Questions asks three questions about the nature of death. What is death? What will I experience as I die? Is there a life after death? It also explains reasons for wanting to know answers to these questions.
2. Chapter 2 - Death of the Body carefully defines death of the body. This is necessary, because ideas about the definition of death of the body differ considerably between people and societies.
3. Chapter 3 - Separate Body, Mind & Soul describes how our ancestors possibly came upon the idea of a difference between the mind and the body, the concept of the soul, as well as the belief in a life after death.
4. Chapter 4 - The Soul uses the texts of major world religions to define the three fundamental properties of the soul manifested by the human body. These are: the soul interacts with the body, the soul interacts with the body to animate the body, and the soul interacts with the body to control the body.
5. Chapter 5 - Animation by the Soul proves that the human body is not animated by an immaterial soul.
6. Chapter 6 - Control by the Soul discusses the evidence that the body is controlled by an immaterial soul.
7. Chapter 7 - Paranormal Senses, discusses whether apparently immaterial senses and aspects of the body are indirect evidence for the reality of an immaterial soul. All that can be proven is that paranormal perceptions are ancient delusions.
8. Chapter 8 - Dreams & Visions. Dreams and visions are apparently evidence of the immaterial. This chapter demonstrates that the information derived from visions and dreams is no more than chance information.
9. Chapter 9 - The Aura. The human aura is often cited as a manifestation of an immaterial aspect of the body such as the soul. This chapter proves that visions of the human auras are no more than common optical aberrations of the eyes.
10. Out-of-body experiences provide the most direct evidence for the reality of an invisible and immaterial human soul. Chapter 10 - Disembodiment Defined defines the properties of apparently disembodied souls, and shows that the apparently disembodied soul has the same intellect and psychology as that of the mortal body.
11. The properties of the out-of-body experiences defined in Chapter 10 necessitated a rigorous discussion of the way the mind perceives sensations. So Chapter 11 - Sensation, Body, & Mind discusses how the mind perceives sensations.
12. The discussions in chapters 10 and 11 enabled an accurate discussion of out-of-body experiences in Chapter 12 - Disembodied Feelings.
13. Chapter 13 - Diabolical Dreams. Many people report being attacked by nocturnal demons. These sensations are the same as the sensations of kidnap by beings from UFO's. Such sensations are due to the ways the sensations from the sleeping human body are interpreted by the mind.
14. Chapter 14 - Body, Mind & Soul summarizes all the evidence for an invisible and immaterial aspect of the body that survives the death of the body, such as the mind, or the soul. The conclusion is that there is no soul, that the mind is a product of the functioning of the mechanisms of the body, and that the mind dies with the body.
15. These discussions answer all questions about the nature of death, and the possibility of a life after death. However, to learn about the experience of dying, it is first necessary to define the nature of dying, and why people die. Chapter 15 - Dying discusses and defines these aspects of dying. The discussion in this chapter reveals that more than nine in ten people lose consciousness, and die of disorders causing loss of consciousness and death due to oxygen starvation, while less than one in ten people lose consciousness and die of other causes.
16. All this means that oxygen starvation determines the final dying experiences of more than nine in ten people, so Chapter 16 - Oxygen Starvation, discusses the experiences generated by different degrees of oxygen starvation.
17. Chapter 17 - Dying Eyes discusses the causes of the visual experiences reported by dying people.
18. All this knowledge about the experience of dying is combined in Chapter 18 - The Experience of Dying, to describe the process of dying, and the experiences that people may undergo while dying. This answers all questions about the experiences undergone by the dying.
19. Chapter 19 - A Vision of Eternity, discusses the philosophical problems raised by the knowledge revealed within this book.

Many references are made to scientific journals reporting the results of experiments whose data are used to support arguments in the text. I give these references so interested people with access to this information can determine the accuracy of my reasoning for themselves. This is standard practice in all scientific literature. After all, some people may claim that what I say cannot be true. Very well, these people can check these experimental reports for themselves to see if they arrive at other conclusions.
